Juvenile Law

Since 1992 we have been the juvenile public defenders for Addison County, Vermont. We are proud of our work providing quality legal representation to children in delinquency, truancy, and abuse and neglect proceedings in the family court.  At times, we are appointed to represent the parents in these proceedings.

Outside of Addison County, we are available to represent juveniles in delinquency proceedings and parents or relatives seeking custody in abuse/neglect proceedings on a private basis.  We also represent foster parents, kin and other interested adults to make their voices heard in juvenile proceedings and with the Department of Children and Families.  We work for individuals negotiating adoption subsidies and establishing permanent guardianships.

Parents should think twice before allowing their children to plead guilty in criminal court.  We advocate for transfer cases from criminal to juvenile court.  Read our Vermont Bar Journal article authored by Pamela Marsh and Jennifer Wagner, “Think Twice Before Pleading 16 and 17 Year- Olds To An Adult Criminal Offense“.
